A PATH FOR WATER
6th Street and Butler Drive neighborhood pocket park, Phoenix, Arizona, USA. 2019

Stainless steel, integrated lighting; 25’ H x 8’ D

A PATH FOR WATER is an iconic columnar sculpture motivated by the complex relationship between nature, humans, and the desert’s most precious resource—water. Shadow patterns of native plant life inspire the hollow cutout pattern of the conical sculpture. A fluid steel ribbon swirls around the column and extends into the air, representing a winding water flow. The effect is enhanced in the evening with illumination from blue LED light. The evolution of light within and around A PATH FOR WATER throughout the 24-hour framework creates continually shifting shadow patterns and layers of interest day and night.
